Investing in “Wellth” Yields Immeasurable Returns

Kate Pitts
Associate Vice President, Client Experience & Relationships

Helping others to “Live Well” is what drives us at WHZ, and when we see our clients achieve that goal – in whatever way is most meaningful to them – we are inspired. But that drive and inspiration don’t stop at our office doors.

We believe that living a truly rich life doesn’t come just from building wealth, but by spreading “wellth” as well – paying forward one’s good fortune and hard work by giving a leg up to those who are working toward that goal for themselves.

Spreading wellth throughout our community is a core component of our culture at WHZ, and one that we focus on all year long through partnerships with incredible organizations that work to empower and enrich the lives of others.

In 2023, our firm is proud to have donated many hours of community service and more than $30,000 to various charities and organizations that provide critical services and support to community members in need. In addition, our generous clients contribute further monetary and gift donations through our firm to assist those in need during the holiday season.

Some of this year’s “spreading wellth” highlights include:

  • Providing volunteer support to help community nonprofits flourish: WHZ Partner Jim Zahansky serves as president of the Board of Directors for the Northeast Connecticut Chamber of Commerce, Chair of the Hale YMCA Board of Advisors, as a Director of the Day Kimball Healthcare Board and as a Corporator for Jewett City Savings Bank; WHZ Partner Laurence Hale serves as chairman of the YMCA of Greater Hartford’s Investment Committee, Trustee for Connecticut’s Episcopal Church Donations and Bequests Board, Board member for the Hale YMCA Youth & Family Center, and a Trustee for the Rectory School; SVP, Financial Advisor Leisl Langevin serves on The Woodstock Academy Board of Trustees and as treasurer of the Woodstock Academy Foundation; and I’m proud to serve on the board of the Hale YMCA, as an alternate on the Pomfret Economic Planning & Development Commission, and as an active member of the Pomfret Proprietors.
  • Sponsorship and volunteer support for the Putnam Business Association Fire & Ice Festival and the Quinebaug Valley Community College Foundation’s Tackle the Trail race
  • Sponsorship and participation in the Hale YMCA’s Road to Wellness fundraiser, at Day Kimball Healthcare’s Guest Bartender Night, which supports cancer care for those in need, and in the Putnam Lions Club Volleyball Tournament
  • Food collection and volunteer support at the TEEG Food Pantry, assisting with the pantry’s Thanksgiving meal distribution and annual Toy Drive

The wonderful thing about each of these examples is that as much as we gave to others, we received immeasurable satisfaction and happiness from the great experiences and fast friendships we enjoyed in return. We are so grateful to have built an organization with such a strong person-centered and collaborative culture. It’s what makes our work so meaningful and gratifying.

We at WHZ are proud to be not just wealth managers, but “wellth” ambassadors as well – for our clients, for each other, and for the community. As we head into 2024, we wish everyone a rich life filled with wellth in the year ahead.
